Flare Facade

Posted byMike Opipari

If you’ve ever wondered what a kinetic ambient reflection membrane is and what it does, we’re about to show you.
And if you already know, then you’re way ahead of the game.
Check out this video and you’ll see the Flare façade  acts as a building’s skin, and computer generation controls movement of a number of metal flake components.
The system is modular and each flake can be programmed to tilt toward or away from the sun reflecting light off it’s surface and creating movement in infinite patterns across the surface of a building thereby allowing the façade to interact with its surroundings.
We wonder if this could be the beginning of a new direction for photovoltaic panels?

Green Supercar?

Posted byMike Opipari

Ronn Motor Co. of Austin, TX manufactures the 40-mpg eco-exotic Scorpion, capable of delivering the caliber of outstanding performance expected from a 200 mph supercar.
The Scorpion(TM) power train is centered on the technically advanced Acura 3.5 liter V-tec Type S engine coupled with a six speed synchronous manual transmission. These engines are widely known for their superior engineering, high horsepower, lightweight and reliability.

What makes this car different however is the on-board Hydrogen-On-Demand system, which provides 130-octane hydrogen during vehicle operation through electrolysis of water using the power generated from the vehicles electrical system. A small amount of hydrogen is added to the vehicles intake air/fuel mixture, in ratios of 30-50%, to achieve lower emissions and vastly improved fuel economy. This allows the engine to operate with less fossil fuel.

The end result is a 2,100-pound car that is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, all with a price tag of $150,000.

The Scorpion is slated for a reveal at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The dogpile of information

Posted byAllen Bram
Tired of the same old sources for information, you might want to start here design.alltop.com
You just might find something new or even remember that site you use to peruse.

I spend time at the usual watering hole of knowledge G**gle; but always seem to leave thirsty. Not that this is a search but more like a quest for answers to which the questions have yet to be queried.

Interested yet? Here is the explanation from the site itself.

Purpose
We help you explore your passions by collecting stories about “all the topics” on the web. We’ve grouped these collections — “aggregations” — into individual Alltop sites based on topics such as environment, photography, science, Muslim, celebrity gossip, military, fashion, gaming, sports, politics, automobiles, and Macintosh. At each Alltop site, we display the headlines of the latest stories from dozens of sites and blogs.

You can think of an Alltop site as a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet. To be clear, Alltop sites are starting points—they are not destinations per se. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed. In other words, our goal is the “cessation of Internet stagnation” by providing “aggregation without aggravation.”

‘playing the building’

Posted byElijah B'Sheart
‘playing the building’ is an installation created by david byrne a small organ sits in the massive building, with wires spawning from the back. touching the keys willnot play the note you expect to hear, but rather play the building. the wires are sending signals to a variety of mechanisms, which vibrate columns, radiators and beams in the building. The best part is anyone can play with equal skill. Byrne calls it the democratization of music.
