HP innovation goes for fashion Must Have

Posted byLaura DeMeulemeester

Vivienne Tam unveiled a hot new fashion accessory at her fashion show during Bryant Park’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week - a red hot HP laptop with her signature peony design.

The HP Vivienne Tam edition laptops made their debut down the runway looking like the latest designer clutch bags. This is an innovative move by a computer company to seek out a top designer to makeover their high tech products into high fashion must-haves. Tam also redesigned the accessories and packaging including a complimentary embroidered storage sleeve.

Her peony design was inspired by Tam’s ‘China Chic’ style, a blend of East and West. The peony is the national flower of China and symbolises beauty, prosperity, good fortune and happiness.

Tam said of her collaborative project,“The notebook is a true reflection of the needs of a modern woman who cares about fashion but is also passionate about her technology. I wanted to create a notebook that would appeal to women of all ages, ethnicities and income levels across the globe.”

HP has also launched Vivienne Tam’s virtual fashion catwalk where you can fun with fashionable outfits. - TrendHunter

Flare Facade

Posted byMike Opipari

If you’ve ever wondered what a kinetic ambient reflection membrane is and what it does, we’re about to show you.
And if you already know, then you’re way ahead of the game.
Check out this video and you’ll see the Flare façade  acts as a building’s skin, and computer generation controls movement of a number of metal flake components.
The system is modular and each flake can be programmed to tilt toward or away from the sun reflecting light off it’s surface and creating movement in infinite patterns across the surface of a building thereby allowing the façade to interact with its surroundings.
We wonder if this could be the beginning of a new direction for photovoltaic panels?

Green Supercar?

Posted byMike Opipari

Ronn Motor Co. of Austin, TX manufactures the 40-mpg eco-exotic Scorpion, capable of delivering the caliber of outstanding performance expected from a 200 mph supercar.
The Scorpion(TM) power train is centered on the technically advanced Acura 3.5 liter V-tec Type S engine coupled with a six speed synchronous manual transmission. These engines are widely known for their superior engineering, high horsepower, lightweight and reliability.

What makes this car different however is the on-board Hydrogen-On-Demand system, which provides 130-octane hydrogen during vehicle operation through electrolysis of water using the power generated from the vehicles electrical system. A small amount of hydrogen is added to the vehicles intake air/fuel mixture, in ratios of 30-50%, to achieve lower emissions and vastly improved fuel economy. This allows the engine to operate with less fossil fuel.

The end result is a 2,100-pound car that is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, all with a price tag of $150,000.

The Scorpion is slated for a reveal at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The dogpile of information

Posted byAllen Bram
Tired of the same old sources for information, you might want to start here design.alltop.com
You just might find something new or even remember that site you use to peruse.

I spend time at the usual watering hole of knowledge G**gle; but always seem to leave thirsty. Not that this is a search but more like a quest for answers to which the questions have yet to be queried.

Interested yet? Here is the explanation from the site itself.

Purpose
We help you explore your passions by collecting stories about “all the topics” on the web. We’ve grouped these collections — “aggregations” — into individual Alltop sites based on topics such as environment, photography, science, Muslim, celebrity gossip, military, fashion, gaming, sports, politics, automobiles, and Macintosh. At each Alltop site, we display the headlines of the latest stories from dozens of sites and blogs.

You can think of an Alltop site as a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet. To be clear, Alltop sites are starting points—they are not destinations per se. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed. In other words, our goal is the “cessation of Internet stagnation” by providing “aggregation without aggravation.”

‘playing the building’

Posted byElijah B'Sheart
‘playing the building’ is an installation created by david byrne a small organ sits in the massive building, with wires spawning from the back. touching the keys willnot play the note you expect to hear, but rather play the building. the wires are sending signals to a variety of mechanisms, which vibrate columns, radiators and beams in the building. The best part is anyone can play with equal skill. Byrne calls it the democratization of music.

Aviation Spirit

AirVenture comes alive 24x7 for one week as an international community of 100,000 people descend upon Oshkosh, WI.  Friendships are renewed, family bonds strengthened, aviation passions explored.

As a first time, non-aviator visitor, I was quite impressed.  The best part is the lack of security lines, baggage claims and overall bustle.  It's cool to see exhibit architecture and consumer engagement at this level.  The people make this an incredible experience.  The spirit, the passion, the overall energy for the community and what they offer.  Educational seminars and technological opportunities abound, as do purchase decisions ... a couple cool executive jets that seem mighty fine!

For a flavor of what you've missed, check out the video.  And mark your calendar - it's only 51 weeks until the next one!

Recycled Jewelry ... for a Cause or just to be Chic

Posted byLaura DeMeulemeester
Recycled jewelry comes in all types, shapes and forms these days - from bobby pins and camera parts to pop cans and paper products.  Here are a couple cool examples:

The Mombula Workshop in Mombasa, Kenya houses "a group of disabled artisans who create funky jewelry out of recycled soda pop cans and wire.  They use pop can cut outs for the bodies of the little people they make. The workshop’s motto is “Disability is not Inability”. They are able to provide for themselves and their families and receive adequate housing and education."

On the other end, Holly Anne Mitchell "changes losing lottery tickets into a revenue generating enterprise. The American artist designs and constructs her line of Jewelry out of recycled paper products. Mitchell uses expired coupons, comic strips, stock lists, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, losing lottery tickets and even used sweetener packets" in her Jewelry line.
